The ASEAN PGA is based in Singapore and was founded on 9 Jan 2008.
With the permission and blessing of founder AC Wong, the Asian Seniors Tour have taken over management and ownership of the ASEAN PGA which will once again “engage the hearts and minds” and the national pride of the various ASEAN nations and their business and political leaders as we re-establish the ASEAN PGA Tour circuit, with the intention to eventually host events in each of the 10 ASEAN countries.
Success on the ASEAN PGA tour will provide ASEAN’s leading professional and amateur golfers with the opportunity to qualify for and be invited to represent their country at tournaments in Australia, the Asia Pacific region and at International PGA tournaments like the 3M Open 2022 offering a US$ 7.5 million purse and others such as the Rocket Mortgage Classic another PGA event with whom we are in discussion and at which we are hoping to secure an annual sponsor’s exemption / invitation starting in 2023
There are also plans to establish the ASEAN Ladies PGA which will similarly provide ASEAN’s leading female golfers with the opportunity to be invited and qualify to represent their country internationally.
ASEAN – the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a geo-political and economic organization which currently comprises 10 nations which include; Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
To help non-golfers appreciate the significant role that golf plays in building and maintaining relationships, this video How Golf Brought The ASEAN Region Together produced by Channel News Asia (CNA) that was commissioned in celebration of 50 Years of ASEAN, is well worth watching – click here or visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0J4FLazj3c
