The ASEAN PGA is based in Singapore and was founded on 9 Jan 2008.

With the permission and blessing of founder AC Wong, the Asian Seniors Tour (AST) took over ownership of the ASEAN PGA which will once again “engage the hearts and minds” and the national pride of the various ASEAN nations and their business and political leaders as we re-establish the ASEAN PGA Tour circuit, with the intention to eventually host events in each of the 10 ASEAN countries.

ASEAN – the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a geo-political and economic organization which currently comprises 10 nations which include; Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

To help non-golfers appreciate the significant role that golf plays in building and maintaining relationships, this video How Golf Brought The ASEAN Region Together produced by Channel News Asia (CNA) that was commissioned in celebration of 50 Years of ASEAN, is well worth watching – click here or visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0J4FLazj3c

Asian Seniors Tour – based in Singapore the AST was incorporated in 2002 and founded at a meeting between the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) members from over 20 countries that contested the inaugural Asian Senior Masters tournament staged in Nov 2003 at the Jurong Country Club in Singapore.

ASM golf events are international tournaments for male senior professional golfers who have attained the age of 50 years and who are currently or have been a member of a recognized PGA. The AST also welcomes male amateur golfers who are 50 years of age or older who might wish to turn professional and qualify to join the AST, to do so they must attend and pass the AST Qualifying school.

A unique feature of the ASM event platform is that the leading amateur golfers (of both genders) derived from the Pro-Ams qualify along with sponsor’s exemptions for places in the Amateur Finals staged during the ASM professional tournament allowing leading amateur golfers the rare opportunity and privilege to compete alongside and head-to-head with the senior professionals as the contest the professional tournament.

Since its humble beginnings in 2003, the AST stages annual events in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and Thailand, have staged ASM events in Cambodia and Vietnam, and have also been involved with establishing and staging events in Sri Lanka, Taiwan, the UK, China, the DPRK and Brunei. Since 2018 the AST took over and have since re-absorbed what was the breakaway Asia Pacific Champions Tour (APCT founded in 2010)

AST has helped to ensure that its members are invited to play and included in the professional fields at numerous senior golf tournaments, most notably with the AST leading golfer being invited each year to play in the USA on the Champions Tour previously at the annual Insperity Invitational staged in Houston, as qualifiers at The Senior Open (British Open Open) as well as other events staged in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, Brunei, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Thailand as well as South Africa.

ASM @ Australia (Perth) – the inaugural tournament was staged in 2011 thanks to the hard work of the AST’s then Secretary General, the late Ron Hendry. In 2019 the ASM @ Australia (Perth) was for the first time staged as a fully co-sanctioned event between the AST and the Australia Legends Tour – the AST fielded over 20 of its members, and the AST’s Champion overseas representative at the ASM @ Australia 2019 qualifying to stay on and play in 3 other events staged during the Australia Legends Tour’s Perth (WA) swing.

AST @ Champions Tour – the late Gunasagaran (Malaysia) made golfing history as the 1st Malaysian professional golfer to ever play in the USA when he represented the Asian Seniors Tour against most of the world's leading senior professional golfers at the US$ 2.1 million purse Insperity Invitational presented by United Healthcare staged at the Woodlands CC in Houston, Texas from 2 to 8 May 2016, where Guna returned a most respectable 3 day 54 hole total score of 222 at 6 over, to come in tied for 48th place.

AST has helped to make golfing history in Asia by having been able to send its OOM Champion, senior professional golfer to play in the US$ 2 million plus purse Insperity Invitational on the Champions Tour staged at The Woodlands CC in Houston (USA) alongside and against the world’s leading senior professional golfers such as Jesper Parnevik 2016, Ian Woosnam 2015, Bernhard Langer 2014, Esteban Toledo 2013, as well as internationally renowned players such as Colin Montgomerie, Peter Senior, John Daly, Mark O'Meara , Fred Couples 2010 and Sandy Lyle, for more information visit www.insperityinvitational.com

2018 - Murugiah (Singapore) - who by day 2 having shot 16 over, withdrew claiming injury

AST @ Australia PGA Legends Tour – prior to Covid the AST’s leading OOM and or Tour Player Champion (TPC) would receive an invitation to play in the NSW Senior Open, the Australian Senior PGA Championship and earned a waiver through the 1st stage of their Q School, we are pleased to confirm that these invitations have been revived for 2022 going forward.

In previous years the AST was represented by;

2017 – Roszali Baharuddin (Malaysia)

2018 – Manas Saengsui (Thailand)

2019 – Roszali Baharuddin (Malaysia)

The AST has gained, secured and built its solid reputation over the past 20 years as an organization in which its members, the various PGAs from around the world, amateur golfers and corporate sponsors alike support and believe in by having staged well over 100 successful ASM events in and around the Asia Pacific and further afield.
